Four people were killed and six others were injured after a house collapsed following an explosion at a firecracker factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad on Monday night.
The house, where the firecracker factory was functioning, crumbled in the explosion, and many are still feared to be trapped under the debris. The roof of a nearby house also collapsed in the incident.
Rescuers have pulled out 10 people from the building, and the operation is still underway.
Firozabad District Magistrate Ramesh Ranjan, who visited the spot, said, “The district hospital and sub-district hospital are both on high alert… A team of doctors, an ambulance, a fire team, and a disaster team are all present at the spot…”
Confirming the deaths, Agra IG Deepak Kumar said, “firecrackers were stored at a house and a blast occurred there. Due to the impact of the blast, the roof of a nearby house collapsed. Police took out 10 people from the debris…6 people are undergoing treatment at a hospital and 4 people have died…further rescue operation is still underway…”.
According to local residents, around 10.30 pm, there was a sudden blast in the firecracker godown due to which the walls of the building collapsed and about seven people of the same family living in it got buried under the debris.
The victims have been identified as Meera Devi (45), Aman (20), Gautam Kushwaha (18) and Kumari Ichha (3).
The IG, who promised action in the incident, said permission for any type of firecracker godown is prohibited in densely populated areas.
